End of 2016 rankings

Quite a few changes between spring rankings and now, as some guys have been traded, some have tanked and some have picked up helium. It's been a while since the Tigers have had multiple big-name prospects, but I wouldn't be surprised to see 1 or 2 names on a top 100-150 list this offseason:

1. Dylan Cozens, RF, Phillies
2. Franklyn Kilome, SP, Phillies
3. Reese McGuire, C, Pirates
4. Mauricio Dubon, SS, Red Sox
5. Greg Allen, CF, Indians
6. Jordan Patterson, RF/1B, Rockies
7. Patrick Weigel, SP, Braves
8. Mark Appel, DL, Phillies
9. Rio Ruiz, 3B, Braves
10. Lewin Diaz, 1B, Twins
11. Chris Betts, C, Rays
12. Tyler Nevin, 3B, Rockies
13. Tyler Krieger, 2B, Indians
14. Leo Crawford, SP, Dodgers
15. Luke Leftwich, SP, Phillies

Others:
Anderson Franco, 3B, Nationals
Andrew Suarez, SP, Giants
Pedro Avila, SP, Nationals
Jack Wynkoop, SP, Rockies

Not to be overly critical, but I'm wondering how someone with 600 MLB at-bats is a prospect.

Ok, I'll remove Vargas from my list if it makes you feel better, Z.

It's about that time to put together some prospect rankings now that we're heading into 2019 and I just acquired some really good prospects, so my farm system looks great.

1. Kyle Tucker
2. Brent Honeywell
3. Luis Garcia
4. Miguel Amaya
5. Ronny Mauricio
6. Aramis Ademan
7. Jojo Romero
8. Blayne Enlow
9. Austin Beck
10. Seth Romero

Others:
Alejandro Kirk
Edward Olivares
Miguel Hiraldo
Anthony Kay
Ernie Clement
Tommy Romero
Jose Miranda
James Marinan

There are obviously two top prospects who are likely to get IBC playing time this year, depending on projections. Garcia, Amaya, and Mauricio are all top 100 guys are various lists, while Ademan looks like a FV 50. The back end of the top 10 are FV 45 guys who are in team top 10 lists.

Outside the top 10 are some really interesting names who I think are on the uptick. Kirk, Hiraldo and Clement in particular are really young players who stood out to me in 2018 for their maturity and success. There's a nice mix of them with guys like Kay, Romero and Olivares, who are a little more advanced and are close to being potentially making an impact. Miranda and Marinan are typical under the radar guys who I'm holding due to their potential. We'll see where they end up, but I'm liking what I'm seeing. There's a nice mix of hitters and pitchers, young and old that I hope will benefit me well.

I missed a start of 2020 list, so I'll do a combined end of 2020/beginning of 2021 list. Side note: it's tough to look back at guys you had and gave up too easily. But, that's the way it goes.

A couple big changes from last year: Kyle Tucker (promotion), Brent Honeywell (trade). This leaves the list different, but still a nice group of young players.

1. Ronny Mauricio SS
2. Luis Garcia 2B
3. Miguel Amaya C
4. Kyle Wright SP
5. George Valera OF
6. Ryan Weathers SP
7. Blake Walston SP
8. Mark Vientos 3B
9. Luis Angel Acuna SS
10. Ronnier Quintero C

This year's class represents a lot of depth centered around risk/reward prospects from the international ranks. Acuna, with a strong pedigree, is a guy I'm really watching closely. Quintero is a fun profile and would have been great to see play a little this year. Ramirez (toolsy CF), Medina (big arm SP) were recent picks, while Morel, Yabbour, Perales, and Gallardo are all in earlier levels of development, but names to watch. Jarren Duran has a chance to leap into the top 10 as he continues to impress in Boston's system, perhaps as early as this year if there is no clear CF at Fenway by the spring. Hall is a very fast, solid-bat SS who is fun to watch.

Winter 2021 Update:

After dealing quite a few guys from my top 10 to Colorado, my system was a little down. A subsequent trade with San Diego built up the system a little more. I like where we are heading into 2021. There's a good group of top end talent mixed with risk/reward types who are a little far off. I'm excited to see how these guys perform in 2021.

1. Nolan Jones
2. Ronny Mauricio
3. Miguel Amaya
4. Taylor Trammell
5. Mark Vientos
6. Blake Walston
7. Luis Angel Acuna
8. Kyren Paris
9. Ronnier Quintero
10. Jarren Duran

Next Five:

Alexander Mojica
Brayan Medina
Adam Hall
Grant McCray
Richard Gallardo

Young Guns:

Victor Bericoto
Rafael Morel
Roismar Quintana
Alexander Ramirez
Joseph Yabbour
Jake Guenther

Spring 2022 version:

Upper tier:

Ronny Mauricio, SS
Jarren Duran, CF
Forrest Whitley, SP
Matt McLain, SS
Blake Walston, SP
Ryne Nelson, SP
Alexander Ramirez, CF

All have been in top 100 lists in the last two years, which is why they are here. There's a variety of talent here, ranging from universal scouting love for tools and upside, to skepticism, to monster upside hampered by injuries.

Second tier:

Miguel Yajure, SP
Brenton Doyle, RF
Erick Pena, RF
Joshua Baez, RF
Bryce Elder, SP
Cristian Santana, SS

This grouping is a mix of guys who have picked up 45-50 grades in different publications based on their attributes or efforts. I like these guys a lot and consider many to have a chance at major league success.

Third tier:

Diego Infante, OF
Cole Ragans, SP
Emmanuel Rodriguez, OF
Yosy Galan, OF
Robert Gasser, SP
Nick Nastrini, SP
Cesar Prieto, 2B
Jarlin Susana, SP
Patrick Wicklander, SP
Hao Yu Lee, 2B

Couple gambles, couple high-profile scouting reports and a couple nobodies. Who knows?
