A very successful yet frustrating season comes to an end in Detroit. For the third time in three playoff appearances since re-joining the league in 2012, the Rangers have eliminated the Tigers from postseason play. This one was a little more frustrating than most because of a relatively weak pitching staff (beset by injury and trades) dominating my hitters. I also managed to walk 12 batters in a game, which is slightly unfathomable for a pitching staff that issued fewer walks than every team but two during the regular season.

However, some much needed perspective from JP last night -- it's good to make the final four and that's quite an accomplishment.

Injuries were a major factor for a team relying on only a couple players over 30 at any given time. Giancarlo (Mike for Hamlin per the stipulation of our trade) Stanton's second random injury in two years really put a damper on the season, but I still thought I had enough offense to keep the train moving. The September tease that he might come back kept me hopeful and led to me not making a major move for a bat at the deadline. Had the Marlins been somewhat competitive he may have been activated, but I'm just hoping he's fully recovered by spring, which should be the case.

The late-season acquisition of Hanley Ramirez and Brett Cecil I thought would end up really keeping me afloat and led to me moving an underperforming Beltre for younger players. Well, Hanley got hurt within a week or so and Cecil didn't do well with me before being shut down in the playoffs. Beltre, as it turns out, was playing hurt all year and still had a good second half. I don't think that would have helped in the IBC, where the computer decided he was done already.

I got top-notch pitching out of mid-season acquisition Shelby Miller as well as late-season add Julio Teheran and solid all-around years out of Hendricks, Wood and Roark. Lester was easily my worst starter. And hopefully we can still get something out of Alex Cobb, another guy I was planning to count on for 2015.

But onward to 2016 we look and that starts with Corey Seager, who had a tremendous minor league season and huge MLB splash. He's going to be a linchpin of the team in 2016 and to come and I'm excited to see what he can do. His presence led to dealing Brandon Crawford, the league's best shortstop over the full season. That success allowed me to bring in one of baseball's best young pitchers in Noah Syndergaard, who may just have a World Series ring of his own in the next couple weeks. Syndergaard, Lester, Miller, Cobb, Teheran, Wood should be a formidable rotation. A full season (if that's even possible) of Goldschmidt, Stanton, Pollock, Altuve, Seager, Pujols and Turner really should help us compete again in 2016 with our eyes toward an IBC World Series appearance.
