August 27 Hot Sheet

Post by RedSox »

Contributors: Rays

I've decided to alternate pitchers and batters so there's a Hot Sheet every week. This week it's the hitters.

Hot Sheet
1. Paul Konerko - DH - Reds
.481/.531/.852, 2 HR, 6 R, 11 RBI
It's been a lost year for Konerko in real life, but in the IBC he's got to be psyched. Going to the playoffs and batting in front of Vlad, that's a sweet gig. Since coming over to the Big Red Machine he's rediscovered his stroke, hitting .375/.439/.646 for Nate. Is this Nate's year?

2. Miguel Cabrera - 3B - Tigers
.414/.457/.897, 3HR, 7 R, 10 RBI, 4 BB/3 K
The Tiger offense continues to mash as they remain one of the highest scoring teams in the league. Miggy showed both a keen batting eye and monsterous power this week as he clubbed three dingers and struck out fewer times than he walked.

3. Prince Fielder - 1B - Tigers
.433/.528/.767, 2 HR, 9R, 9 RBI, 2 HBP, 4 BB/ 3 K
I could make a vegetarian joke right now, but haven't they all been done already? If he was on my team, I wouldn't care if he couldn't eat anything that cast a shadow as long as he swung the stick like he did this week. Fielder also walked more than he struck out and took two for the team as well to ring up a .528 OBP. He now has 28 HR on the year.

4. Jose Reyes - SS - Brewers
.423/.531/.538, 7 R, 2 RBI, 6 BB/0 K, 7 SB, 0 CS
Could you ask for a better week from your leadoff hitter? If those 7 extra bases counted in the slugging percentage, wow! Also note Jose didn't strikeout even once this week while walking 6 times. As your leadoff guy goes, often your team goes and the Brewers won every game they played last week behind their catalyst Reyes and 8 in a row overall as of Sunday.

5. Vladimir Guerrero - RF - Reds
.464/.531/.786, 2 HR, 5 R, 12 RBI
Now that Mirabelli is gone, is there anyone besides Vlad left in baseball that doesn't wear batting gloves? He's a unique player. Built like Frankenstein's monster with a cannon for an arm and zone coverage from his ankles to his eyebrows. He's slowed down in the field a little, so soon it may be time for him to leave the NL and come to TB?

6. John Lindsey - 1B - Rockies
.452/.500/.806, 2 HR, 4 R, 12 RBI
Some of you might see Lindsey as a sim freak. Maybe, but he's working on a .308/.393/.551 line this year in AAA with 25 HR, 61 xbh, and a 57/80 BB/K ratio. Those look like good numbers for next year too. Lindsey also had a key RBI Sunday as the Rockies ended a long winning run by the Reds.

7. B.J. Upton - CF - DBacks
.429/.484/.786, 3 HR, 5 R, 9 RBI
BJ has pretty much met or exceded his projection with a full month left in the sim. He's been a key contributer as the DBacks lurk only one game back of the NLW leading Padres despite only a +10 run differential as of Sunday. There are 9 teams within 8.5 games of our 6 division leaders with a week to go until the deadline. Is that a record? Tell me this league isn't going to be hella sick within the next two years as some of the young lions rise up to challenge the old guard.

8. Magglio Ordonez - RF - Orioles
.415/.455/.759, 2 HR, 4 R, 8 RBI
It was about a week ago that the O's were sitting 6 games back in the ALE. As of Sunday they were back to 3 games out and currently sit only 2.5 back with a month to play. Jason has done a great job this year. Ordonez provided a key extra inning walkoff homerun in the first game of a series sweep against the hated Yankees as the ALE race has once again become a three man dogpile for two playoff bones.

9. Rickie Weeks - 2B - DBacks
.385/.467/.731, 1 HR, 11 R, 3 RBI, 3 SB
Unlike the real Weeks, the IBC version didn't need his team to bring in Ray Durham to motivate him, though Durham is available...... Weeks is having a HUGE year for the DBacks, .313/.415/.594 with 30 2B, 15 3B, 24 HR, 33 SB. He continued his roll this week with 11 R and 3 SB while slugging .731.

10. Matt Kemp - RF - Twins
.417/.432/.667, 2 HR, 10 R, 6 RBI, 4 SB
Matt Kemp put together a good week at the top of the Twins lineup including stealing his 37th base of the year Sunday. Unlike Weeks, Kemp has underperformed his projection so far this year. A couple more weeks like this one would go a long way towards putting away the new look Royals and scrappy Tigers for the defending AL champs.

HM's to C. Tracy, Crisp, Rios, Sheff, Hodges, Burrell, and Hawpe.

Next week: Pitchers.
