June 4 Hot Sheet: Hitter Edition

Post by BlueJays »

Contributors: Reds, Royals

Welcome to the 2nd edition of the IBC Hot Sheet. This is your Hitters edition of the Hot Sheet from May 19th to June 1st. New to this weeks edition - The Bench. These are guys who were so close they deserve more than a mention in the team photo, so they'll get their stats shown for the same time frame.

Enjoy!

That top part was the Nate-train - he's the rankings, I'm the sizzle - thanks again to Shawn...

Hot Sheet: Hitter Edition

1. Adrian Gonzalez - 1B - WhiteSox
379/455/741 13 G, 58 AB, 22 H, 6 2b, 0 3b, 5 HR, 16 R, 17 RBI, 8 BB, 7 K

I like A-Gon. Good baseball player - certainly fully capable of stringing together a solid couple of weeks like in this sample. My question is this: How much must this dude HATE playing in SD right now? It's one thing to have your team suck and be in a hitter's ballpark - but his team blows in real life, and he has to play in SD. Seriously, why don't more people talk about how good this dude is?

2. Mark Teixeira - 1B - DBacks
346/407/788 13 G, 52 AB, 18 H, 3 2b, 1 3b, 6 HR, 15 R, 17 RBI, 6 BB, 13 K, 1 IBB

While sucking balls until this past week at the MLB level, Teixeira has been a full year force in the IBC - and this sample size was no exception. I expect Marky Mark's numbers will continue to rise in the MLB, but it will be interesting to see if he will remain as hot in the IBC.

3. Jimmy Rollins - SS - Dodgers
400/433/745 13 G, 55 AB, 22 H, 4 2b, 5 HR, 13 R, 18 RBI, 4 BB, 6 K, 1 IBB, 4 SB

What a goofy f'ing grin in this picture. Either way, if Shawn was truly rebuilding he'd trade Jimmy Rollins to me. This guy can play ball...

4. Randy Winn - RF - Athletics
465/520/767 12 G, 43 AB, 20 H, 5 2b, 1 3b, 2 HR, 10 R, 12 RBI, 6 BB, 5 K, 1 SB

He's the Mark DiFelice of the hitting list (you heard me Rev). Randy Winn hasn't been good since 2002. I think Jake feeds his guys HGH - how do we start mandatory drug testing in the IBC?

5. Nick Swisher - CF - Reds
300/481/775 13 G, 40 AB, 12 H, 4 2b, 5 HR, 11 R, 11 RBI, 14 BB, 11 K, 1 IBB, 1 CS

I would like to have a beer with Nick Swisher. That being said, I would like to use this forum to say that Ozzie Guillen is full of shit. Nice massive lineup changes douchebag. Mr. Tough Guy got set straight by Kenny Williams. To be honest, I was hoping to see some sort of crazy lineup with AJ Pier batting cleanup and Thome leading off, but I guess we found out who wears the pants in the White Sox exec relationship.

6. Alfonso Soriano - LF - Royals
390/419/695 14 G, 59 AB, 23 H, 9 2b, 3 HR, 9 R, 10 RBI, 3 BB, 5 K, 7 SB, 4 CS

Do you think the Cubs petition every day to get the DH installed in the NL? I mean, this guy is so bad at defense, he's getting booed despite being on pace to hit 47 homers this year. What's that DMB? He's an avg OF? You know what, nevermind - UNDERRATED FIELDER, HE'S THE NEXT WILLIE RANDOLPH!!!

7. Ryan Garko - 1B - Cubs
414/452/655 13 G, 58 AB, 24 H, 5 2b, 3 HR, 17 R, 10 RBI, 3 BB, 9 K, 1 HBP

True story: Hot Atlanta girl from the blog (most IBCers know who I'm talking about) went to college with Garko. He got her tickets to see him play while I was actively, uh, "working with her." After the game we grabbed a drink with him, and he and I were talking when we shared an awkward guy moment where you know you've both been with the same girl. That's my Ryan Garko story. He's also OPSing .719 as a 1b in real life, and, as bad as that is, is still kicking the piss out of "the player formerly known as Travis Hafner."

8. Nick Markakis - RF - Cardinals
327/386/731 12 G, 52 AB, 17 H, 3 2b, 6 HR, 9 R, 15 RBI, 5 BB, 9 K, 1 IBB

I truly can't tell how good this dude is. He plays the Yanks and he looks awesome every time I watch him play. Like legit 5-tool guy. Then I look at his stats, and I'm rather unimpressed. I realize the dude's only 24, but is he a guy to build around? Or is he a career #2 or #6 hitter trapped as a #3 hitter in an obscenely bad offense?

9. Aaron Hill - 2B - Giants
442/473/731 12 G, 52 AB, 23 H, 4 2b, 1 3b, 3 HR, 8 R, 12 RBI, 3 BB, 6 K

So I wrote this really fucking clever passage about Aaron Hill cuz I thought he was on the IBC Jays. It had references to Andy Sonnanstine, Sartre, the War of 1812, Jenna Jameson, candlelight dinners, and ribbed condoms. Unfortunately I was informed that Aaron Hill does not double dip with the Jays. He plays for Nils. Which means I hate him even more then what I had previously mentioned.

10. Jeremy Hermida - RF - Tigers
372/481/698 12 G, 43 AB, 16 H, 3 2b, 1 3b, 3 HR, 5 R, 16 RBI, 9 BB, 12 K, 1 SB

See: Nick Markakis. Same shit, different dude.

On The Bench:
Brian Roberts - 382/414/600 13 G, 55 AB, 21 H, 6 2b, 2 HR, 12 R, 9 RBI, 3 BB, 12 K, 12 SB, 1 CS
Wily Mo Pena - 368/379/702 13 G, 57 AB, 21 H, 3 2b, 2 3b, 4 HR, 9 R, 15 RBI, 1 BB, 19 K, 1 IBB
Joey Votto - 452/531/690 13 G, 42 AB, 19 H, 4 2b, 2 HR, 9 R, 7 RBI, 7 BB, 5 K, 1 IBB, 1 SB, 1 CS
Placido Polanco - 440/500/560 13 G, 50 AB, 22 H, 4 2b, 1 3b, 10 R, 6 RBI, 5 BB, 2 K, 1 HBP, 1 SB, 1 CSp
Miguel Cabrera - 439/519/683 12 G, 41 AB, 18 H, 4 2b, 2 HR, 13 R, 11 RBI, 9 BB, 8 K
Jim Thome - 439/540/659 12 G, 41 AB, 18 H, 6 2b, 1 HR, 12 R, 12 RBI, 9 BB, 12 K
Alex Rios - 404/458/750 13 G, 52 AB, 21 H, 4 2b, 4 3b, 2 HR, 11 R, 12 RBI, 5 BB, 6 K, 1 HBP, 1 SB
Hunter Pence - 390/449/780 12 G, 41 AB, 16 H, 5 2b, 1 3b, 3 HR, 7 R, 10 RBI, 5 BB, 10 K, 1 HBP, 1 SB

I don't get the Randy Winn hate (which is actually really prevalent in SF too), he was very good in the second half of 2006 when the Giants acquired him and was actually pretty decent last year (.798 OPS in that park), plays a terrific right field in one of the most difficult outfields in baseball, and he's a safe bet to be at least a 15/15 guy with an outside shot at 20/20, you win with guys like that.

Also, hot Atlanta girl just dropped down several notches in my book. If she went to school with Garko that means she went to Stanford which makes her a 6.5 tops, unless maybe he took a community college course over the summer or something.

In the words of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog: "Randy Winn and a .798 ops for a corner outfielder is great...FOR ME TO POOP ON!!!"

I don't hate Randy Winn, I just don't think he's really any good.

He hits most of his at bats left handed at AT&T park, which severely depresses home runs. He hit 14 HR and 42 doubles, and according to DMB AT&T depresses home runs for lefties by 30%. Give him 30% more home runs it comes out to 18.2 (round that to 18) and 38 doubles. The extra 12 TB makes his OPS an OBP heavy .821, and he steals bases and plays gold glove defense. Moral of the story, can't look at just one number.

He can track down just about anything in the OF, however he throws like a girl or a Johnny Damon.

As long as they keep projecting him with an AV or better arm in DMB I'm all good.

Jon Still is making you guys hate Randy Winn???

Still doesn't believe in the periodic table. The only element he acknowledges is surprise.
