The following franchises are eliminated from the tournament after 2 rounds: Rays, Astros, Marlins, Royals, Tigers, Brewers, Cardinals, Padres, White Sox, Diamondbacks, Braves, Giants, Rangers, A's, Angels

The number one overall seed 1927 Yankees have dominated, sweeping both the 1984 Padres and 2001 Diamondbacks to advance to the Sweet 16.

The 5th seeded 2004 Red Sox had to have a 9th inning game 5 rally against Sean Doolittle to survive the 2019 Nationals in the first round, then beat the 106 win 1998 Braves in the round of 32.

The 2016 Cubs, seeded third in this region, have mashed their way past the 1982 Brewers and 1908 Pirates, losing one game to the Pirates.

The 2 seed 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers have had an underwhelming performance so far in reaching the Sweet 16, having to rally to beat the 1944 Browns in 5 games and besting the 1993 Giants in 6.

Predictions: Yankees in 5. Boston has proven it can beat great pitching but has yet to face a stellar offense. If the 27 Yankees can sweep Schilling and Unit, I don't see how an older, worse Schilling and Pedro will slow them down

Cubs in 6. The Dodgers and Cubs can both rake but the Cubs have a huge edge in pitching. John Lackey is the Cubs Game 4 starter and he would be hte ace of the Dodgers, who only have one pitcher with a sub 4 ERA

This region is full of busted brackets and chaos

The 8 seed 1992 Blue Jays rode a busted bracket to the Sweet 16. They dispatched the 2003 Marlins with ease in round one and caught the 16 seed 1999 Rangers instead of the 86 Mets in round 2. Texas pushed them to 6 before falling.

The 13 seed 1990 Pittsburgh Pirates swept the 4th seed 2001 Mariners in the first round. They followed with a 6 game series win against the 1990 A's to reach the Sweet 16.

The 11th seed 1980 Phillies beat the 1998 Astros to get to round 2. A busted bracket allowed them to waltz past the overmatched 1982 Angels, a 14 seed, in 5 games to advance.

The 1948 Indians are a 7 seed playing way above their seeding, sweeping the 10 seed 1919 Reds and 2 seed 1942 Cardinals.

Predictions: Pittsburgh is going to pull off another upset. Toronto doesn't have an ace to match up with Drabek and a middle of the order Bonilla/Bonds/Van Slyke is tough to beat. Pirates in 7.

Cleveland won't sweep, but they'll take out the Phillies in 5. The Phils lineup may full of intimidating names, but the reality is its Schmidt and not much else.

The 8th seed 2019 Twins slugged their way past the 57 Milwaukee Braves in round 1 in 4 games and upset the 1975 Big Red Machine in 6 games.

The 13 seed 1997 Mariners beat the 1965 Twins in 5 games in round one and then made quick work of the 5 seed 2005 White Sox in round 2, winning the series in 5.

The 11th seed 1993 Phillies rallied for a win over the 6 seed 2002 Moneyball A's in 5 games, then matched up with the 14 seed 2015 Mets, who they dispatched in 5 games to make it this far.

The 2 seed 1998 Yankees have barely advanced each round. The 2011 Brewers blew a 2-1 series lead against them in the first round and the 1971 Pirates took them to 7 games in round 2.

Mariners in 7. I don't think the 19 Twins pitching can shut down Junior/Edgar/ARod/Buhner enough to outslug the M's like they did everyone else

Phillies in 7. The Yankees have barely survived thus far. Their lineup is deep, but so are the Phillies and the Phils actually have an edge in the starting rotation.

The 1970 Orioles trailed the 2017 DBacks 2-0 in round 1, but rallied to sneak out of the first round, having comeback wins in game 3 and 4 and winning game 5 2-1. A pissed off Earl Weaver demanded a sweep against the 98 Padres and got it.

The 4 seed 1994 Expos survived an upset bid by the 1984 Cubs, winning Game 5 thanks in large part to a 9th inning error by Gary Matthews. They then swept their Canadian cousin 1985 Blue Jays in round 2.

The 6th seed 2017 Indians rolled past the 97 Marlins in round 1 in 4 games, then beat the 1962 Drysdale/Koufax Dodgers in 5 to advance this far.

The ultimate underdog 2009 Rockies, a 15 seed, beat the 1984 Tigers in 4 games and then swept the 1986 Red Sox to make a run to the sweet 16.

Prediction: Baltimore in 6. They've won 7 in a row, it hasn't always been pretty but I don't think the Expos will hit the O's starters enough to pull it off

Colorado in 6. The Rockies have a better rotation than some remaining teams and the only weak spot in their lineup is Clint Barmes. Cleveland loses Edwin Encarnacion for 3 games in Colorado and the Rocks get to add Seth Smith at DH in Cleveland. The miracle ride continues

Interesting - there are 3 matchups where the brackets are pretty much intact - the other 5 have been completely blown up!

Fun! Thanks for doing this, Aaron!

Busted Bracket Region Game 1

Kelly Gruber hit one high off the left field foul pole for a 3 run homer in the bottom of the 2nd and scored Devon White on a sac fly in the 6th to lead Toronto to a 4-2 victory over the 1990 Pirates. Juan Guzman allowed 2 runs in 7 innings and Tom Henke got the save. Pittsburgh loaded the bases in the 6th with 2 out, but Jose Lind grounded out. Pittsburgh tried to mount one last rally with a pair of two out singles in the 9th, but Gary Redus struck out swinging at a slider in the dirt to end it. Doug Drabek was the tough luck loser, going the distance and only allowing 4 hits. A foot to the left and Gruber's homer is a foul ball and Pitt might be up.

The 1948 Indians lit up Steve Carlton and coasted to an 11-1 victory. Dale Mitchell and Larry Doby homered and Bob Feller threw a four hit gem, allowing only a Mike Schmidt single to drive in Pete Rose in the 9th.

Mullets and Miller High Life Region Game 1

The Big Unit struck out 10 in 7 innings as the 97 M's won 8-1. Russ Davis, Paul Sorrento and Edgar Martinez went deep for Seattle. The Twins only run came on a bases loaded walk with 2 out in the 4th by Jonathan Schoop of all people.

David Wells and Terry Mullholland locked horns in a lefty pitcher's duel. The Yankees went head in the 5th on a Darryl Strawberry solo home run to right just over the glove of Jim Eisenreich. Darren Daulton would put the Phils ahead in the 7th with a two run bomb. The Yankees would answer in the bottom of the inning when Tino Martinez hit a laser beam to center field to tie things up. Chuck Knoblauch brought home Chad Curtis with the go ahead run in the 8th on a one out single. A leadoff walk in the 9th by Kevin Stocker was the only offense the Phillies could get as Mo retired the next 3 in succession for the save.

Edgar Martinez homered in the 2nd to give Seattle an early 1-0 lead. A Mitch Garver single and Sano double in the 3rd put the Twins ahead 2-1. Garver would triple home Nelson Cruz as part of a 3 run 6th for the Twins to take a 6-4 lead. The Twins added an insurance run on a Max Kepler bloop to right that Buhner should've got to but didn't to make it 7-4. The M's rallied in the 9th, with Buhner smacking a 2 run double with nobody out to cut the lead to one. With the tying run at 2nd and Junior, Edgar and Jose Cruz due up, the Mariners didn't get the ball out of the infield and the Twins survived to even up the series.

Ruth Region Game 4

The 27 Yankees continue their dominance, sweeping the 04 Red Sox with a 6-2 victory. Boston went ahead 2-1 in the 4th on a Bill Mueller single and Bronson Arroyo allowed only a Lou Gehrig home run in 7 innings. Earle Combs singled home Bob Meusel off Curtis Leskanic to tie things, then Gehrig hit a 3 run bomb off Mike Timlin that landed on Landsdowne Street. That was all she wrote.

In a wild Wrigley Field slugfest, the Dodgers scored 7 runs in the first 2 innings, but the Cubs scored 5. The teams traded haymakers but the Cubs took a 14-9 lead into the 9th. The Dodgers would rally in the 9th. Bobby Morgan had a pinch hit double to score 2. Campanella's bases loaded single scored two more. Gil Hodges would draw a bases loaded 2 out walk to tie the game. Billy Cox smashed a line drive right at Addison Russell that would've cleared the bases if he didn't have better reflexes than his wife. In the bottom of the 9th, Pee Wee Reese booted a routine ground ball with one out and Fowler followed with a walk. Kris Byrant singled to left to score Almora and the Cubs took a 3-1 series lead with a 15-14 win.

Busted Bracket Region Game 4

The Blue Jays loaded the bases with nobody out in the first, but Joe Carter lined out to Jose Lind, Devon White grounded to Jay Bell at short who threw home for the force and Pat Borders grounded out to Wally Backman at 3rd. In the bottom of the first, Jack Morris walked the first three Pirate batters, then Andy Van Slyke hit a grand slam to center that landed about 450 feet from home plate. Wally Backman added a two run shot in the 5th and the Pirates won 6-0, with Randy Tomlin, Zane Smith and Ted Power combining on the 7 hit shutout.

No point in doing a writeup here, Indians pound the 80 Phillies 17-1 to take a 3-1 lead. Four Indians homered, Sam Zoldak and Satchel Paige combined on a gem and the Phillies are on the doorstep of elimination

Mullets and Miller High Life Game 4

I had everything written up and the wifi crashed and I lost everything so this writeup won't do the game justice. Twins win 12-10 with a 5 run 9th inning comeback. Miguel Sano had a pair of 3 run homers. ARod had a couple homers, Griffey had one, M's blew the big lead. Sorry guys this was an epic game.

The Yankees cruise to an 11-2 win behind 5 strong innings from Orlando Hernandez, a Bernie Williams home run and a pair of Philly errors that lead to 4 unearned runs.

Jackson singled home pinch hitter Edwin Encarnacion to tie the game. Runners were at the corners still with nobody out but Street got out of the jam. The Rockies got two on to start the 9th but couldn't get anyone home. In the 10th, Colorado got 2 on with 2 out but Hawpe struck out. Dexter Fowler singled with one out in the 11th, though he looked out on replay but this game took place in 2009 so there were no challenges. Terry Francona was kicked out of the game for arguing the call. Before he could get down the runway to the clubhouse, Carlos Gonzalez hit a home run to left center to win the game and even up the series.

Ruth Region Game 5

Gil Hodges led off the 2nd with a double and came in to score on a Billy Cox single. Pee Wee Reese would add an RBI single later in the inning to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. Wilson Contreras led off the 3rd with a solo home run to center field to cut the lead in half. The Cubs loaded the bases in the 4th but Chris Coghlan flew out to right. Coghlan made up for it in the 6th with a two out solo shot to left center that landed in the basket. Things were still knotted at 2 in the 9th when Contreras led off the inning with a single. Coghlan smoked one into right that bounced off the wall and allowed Contreras to make it all the way home from first, giving Chicago a 3-2 win and a 4-1 series victory.

Busted Bracket Region Game 5

Game 5 at Three Rivers was a pitcher's duel between Juan Guzman and Doug Drabek. Toronto took a 1-0 lead in the first when Dave Winfield GIDP with runners at the corners. The Jays got two on with one out in the 2nd, but Manny Lee popped out and Guzman struck out to end the threat. Don Slaught singled and Barry Bonds walked to lead off the 3rd, but the next three Pirates went down easily to end the threat. The Pirates got a pair of walks to start the 7th, but Slaught GIDP an Bonilla popped out to end the frame. Dave Winfield flew out to left with runners at the corners to end the top half of the 8th. Van Slyke grounded out to Kelly Gruber and Sid Bream lined out to Olerud to start the 8th. Guzman then walked Wally Backman on four pitches. Then he accomplished the impossible task of walking Jose Lind. THEN he issued his 7th walk of the day to Jay Bell and Cito Gaston called in Duane Ward for the final out. Mike Lavalliere pinch hit for Stan Belinda and took Ward's first pitch off his leg to tie the game. Don Slaught battled Ward for a ten pitch walk to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead. Bonilla grounded out to first to end the inning. The Pirates got two runs without putting a ball in play. Bob Patterson came in for the save and struck out Joe Carter to start the inning, but Devon White grounded one between first and second for a hit. Pat Borders grounded out to Bream to advance White to second. Kelly Gruber then lofted a lazy fly ball to left center that Van Slyke ran down and the Pirates pulled off their third straight upset, advancing to the Elite 8 with a 4-1 series win.

Bob Feller and Steve Carlton engaged in a pitcher's duel in Game 5 at the other end of the Keystone state. The Phillies loaded the bases in the 4th with nobody out, but Manny Trillo grounded to first and the Tribe took the force out at home. Bob Boone followed with a sac fly to make it 1-0. Philly loaded the bases with one out in the 6th, but Boone grounded into a double play to allow Feller to escape. Greg Luzinski homered in the 8th for an insurance run. Mullets and Miller High Life Region Game 5

Mitch Garver got the scoring started with a two run homer in the top of the first. Junior cut the lead in half with a solo blast to center in the bottom of the inning. Junior doubled to lead off the 4th and came home on a single by Edgar Martinez to tie things up.The Twins regained the lead when CJ Cron scored from first in the 5th on a two out double by Jonathan Schoop. Joey Cora tied the game with a one out single in the 7th to score Paul Sorrento and Trevor May came on in relief of Jose Berrios. ARod greeted him with a first pitch double to left that scored two. Jay Buhner advanced Rodriguez to third on a sac fly, then May uncorked a wild pitch to make it a 6-3 game. Minnesota got one back in the 8th when Byron Buxton came home on a Nelson Cruz groundout. The Big Unit was tired but Lou Pinella sent him out in the 9th. Kepler hit a line drive single to right and Cron had a two out single to left to bring the winning run to the plate. Schoop went the other way with a Johnson fastball, sending Jose Cruz to the wall to make the catch and give the Mariners a 3-2 series lead.

The enjoyable run of the 93 Philles ends with a whimper at Veteran's Stadium, as David Wells, Mike Buddie and Mike Stanton combine on a 4 hit shutout as New York advances with a 7-0 win. Chuck Knoblauch and Tino Martinez homered as Terry Mullholland got pounded for 5 runs in the first 3 innings. On the bright side, a young Phillies fan named Nick Perry hit Derek Jeter in the head with a well thrown battery as the Yankees exited the field

Earl Weaver Meltdown Region

A Brooks Robinson error allowed the Expos to get on the board in the 3rd to take a 1-0 lead. Pitcher Tom Phoebus had a two out hit to bring home Davey Johnson in the 4th to tie the game. The O's loaded the bases in the 7th with nobody out, but Frank Robinson flew out to shallow right and Brooks Robinson grounded into a double play for Montreal to escape the jam. Ellie Hendricks homered with two out in the 8th to give Baltimore a 2-1 lead. The Expos would load the bases with nobody out in the 8th and tie things up on a Sean Berry sac fly, but one run was all they would get. Things remained tied until the 12th, when a Davey Johnson triple brought home two. The O's tacked on two more for a 6-2 win to send the series back to Baltimore.

Coors Field was not kind to Corey Kluber, who got lit up for 8 runs in 3 1/3 innings as the Rockies won their third straight game, 12-3. Brad Hawpe, Ian Stewart and Clint Barmes all homered for the Rockies, Ubaldo Jimenez got the win by allowing 2 runs in 6 innings and every position player had at least one hit.

Mullets and Miller High Life Game 6

Joey Cora got things started in the 2nd for the M's with an RBI double as Seattle looked to be the second 13 seed to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament. Edgar doubled home ARod and Junior in the 5th and scored himself on a Paul Sorrento single to make it 4-0. In the top of the 9th, Bryon Buxton dove for a long ARod drive to the track in center and knocked the wind out of himself, allowing Rodriguez to get an inside the park home run. Jeff Fassero was sent out with a 5-0 lead to try for the shutout and walked the first two batters, who scored on a Miguel Sano double. Bobby Ayala came in and got Max Kepler to fly out to right. Eddie Rosario followed with a home run to make it 5-4 with one out. Ayala drilled CJ Cron in the back with the next pitch as warnings were issued to both clubs. Schoop grounded to second but beat the throw to first to keep the game alive. Buxton walked and Norm Charlton came in to try and save the game. He promptly walked Jorge Polanco to load the bases and bring up Nelson Cruz with two out. Charlton caught Cruz looking for strike three to advance the Mariners to the next round.
