Earl Weaver Meltdown Region

Pedro helped his own cause with an RBI single to score Mike Lansing in the second. In the third, Larry Walker singled with one out and stole second, then came home on a Wil Cordero double. Cordero stole third and Ellie Hendricks throw sailed into left field, allowing Cordero to score and the Expos to take a 3-0 lead. Frank Robinson cut the lead to one in the 5th with a two out homer to right. A Brooks Robinson double and a pair of walks followed to load the bases. Hendricks hit a shallow fly ball to right but Walker made a running catch to get out of the inning. Pedro left after 7, Mel Rojas pitched a perfect 8th and John Wetteland retired the side in order in the 9th for the save to advance to the next round. Weaver's postgame quotes could not be printed.

The Rockies swept their home games and come to Progressive Field with a chance to advance. A first inning single by Tulo put them ahead 2-0. Lindor singled home Jose Ramirez to cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first. Seth Smith drove in Fowler and Smith was driven in by Brad Hawpe to make it 4-1 in the 2nd. Michael Brantley would drive in Carlos Santana to make it 4-2 in the bottom of the inning. A 4th inning double by Hawpe increased the lead to 5-2. Colorado put up a crooked number in the 6th to make it 8-2. Cleveland still had some fight left and in the seventh Lonnie Chisenhall brought home Brantley with a double. A Lindor single followed and scored two. A two out Santana triple make it 8-6. Ian Stewart hit a solo home run with two out in the 8th to make it 9-6. Brantley would score again in the 8th on an Austin Jackson single. The winning run came to bat twice, but Chisenhall struck out and Lindor popped out to Clint Barmes to end the inning. Huston Street came on for the save and mowed down the Tribe in order to preserve a 9-7 win.
