MGM Resorts presents the Pete Rose Region

The 19 Twins knock out the 57 Braves 8-5. CJ Cron and Max Kepler homered for the Twins.

The 05 White Sox defeat the 2012 GIants 4-3 to advance. Things were tied after 5 when Frank Thomas, a last minute addition to the lineup at DH, crushed a solo homer to left center. Mark Buehrle would throw a complete game, pitching around a Brandon Crawford leadoff double in the 9th to get the win.

The 97 Mariners best the 65 Twins in another one run game, 6-5. Junior, Jose Cruz and Russ Davis all went yard in the first to give Seattle a 4-0 lead. Junior would add another homer in the 7th to make it 6-0 before the Twins mounted a furious rally. Jimmie Hall had homers in the 7th and 8th and Harmon Killebrew had one to lead off the 9th to make it 6-5. The bases would be loaded with one out in the 9th when Heathcliff Slocumb came in to try and get the save. Jimmie Hall lined out to 2nd and Bob Allison grounded out to end the game.

The cheaters are gone, the 15 Mets knock out the 17 Astros 9-6. DeGrom got lit up for 6 runs in 6 innings but the Mets pen tossed the last 3 scoreless. Travis d'Arnaud became a legend by smashing 3 home runs, Cuddyer, Duda and Conforto also went deep for the Mets. MLB suspended the entire Astros organization after the game.

In typical Moneyball fashion, the 02 A's lost to the 93 Phillies 8-1 in a deciding 5th game. Terry Mullholland gave up 1 run in 7 2/3 innings, Dutch Daulton had 2 homers and Lenny Dykstra and Jim Eisenreich added blasts of their own.

The 98 Yankees survived a major scare against the 2011 Brewers winning 4-3. A Rickie Weeks double gave Milwaukee a 3-2 lead in the 6th. Kameron Loe came in to pitch the 8th and this happened:

K.Loe enters the game to pitch.
S.Brosius hits a laser beam into LF for a double.
C.Knoblauch walks.
DP D.Jeter hits into a 5-4 fielder's choice.
DP P.O'Neill lines one off the SS's glove for an infield single. S.Brosius scores.
L.Hawkins enters the game to pitch.
DP T.Martinez pops out to 2B.
- B.Williams bloops a single to CF. D.Jeter scores.
D.Strawberry strikes out swinging.

The - means asshole Nyjer Morgan should've had the bloop single easily but misread it off the bat for the Yanks to take the lead.

Rivera would have trouble again in the 9th, allowing a single to Prince Fielder and a double to Jerry Hairston, but the Brewers didn't pinch run for Prince and he had to stop at 3rd. After getting Mark Kotsay to pop out and walking Lucroy to load the bases, Yuni Betancourt grounded out with the bases loaded to end the game.

The Earl Weaver Meltdown Region

Boog Powell hit a two run blast in the first inning was all Mike Cuellar needed, as he went 9, giving up only a Paul Goldschmidt solo shot in the 6th as the O's rallied from a 2-0 series hole to win 3 straight and avoid being the second 1 seed to fall to a 16, 2-1. Arizona got 2 on with 2 out in the 9th, but Cuellar struck out Chris Owings to end it.

The 98 Padres advanced with a 5-4 win over the 91 Twins. Chili Davis and Greg Gagne gave the Twins a 4-3 lead in the 4th, but in the 6th SD struck back. Ken Caminiti and Tony Gwynn went back to back to put the Pads up 5-4. Shane Mack got the 3rd with nobody out in the 8th for Minnesota but they couldn't get him home and Kirby Puckett struck out swinging with the tying run on base in the 9th.

There was all kinds of shouting for joy in French and English in Quebec as the Expos survived and walked off the 84 Cubs 2-1. Ron Cey singled home Gary Matthews for a 1-0 lead in the 5th. Larry Walker answered in the 6th with a solo blast to tie it up. To lead off the 9th, Darrin Fletcher drove one to the track in right that Gary Matthews dropped. Mike Lansing followed by hitting a slow roller up the middle that Sandberg was able to keep on the infield. With runners at the corners and nobody out, Cliff Floyd lined a single to left to win it for the Expos.

Boston beat the Angels 5-1. Roger Clemens went the distance, allowing only an unearned run.

In the second huge upset of the tournament, the 2009 Rockies knocked out the 84 Tigers 6-1.Brad Hawpe and Tulo went deep for the Rockies as Ubaldo spun 8 innings of one run ball.
