64 team best of all time tournament

I'm gonna go 96 and 09..

What I'd like to see, but it would take a lot more work.. Is something where we put together an all time best team for our respective franchises.

Since the Rockies have had a good amount of good players, but not a ton of good teams..would be fun to pick best all timers and put some all star teams together.

So for example, I could put Larry Walkers 97 season as my RF. Then the Big Cats 96 season at 1b. Holliday in 07 in left. Arenado, Tulo, etc.

But, maybe we do that if this carona stuff sticks around a long while.

Have you seen the 69 Mets offensive lineup? Agee lead the team with 26 HR. Next highest was Shamsky at 14. Everyone hit 250 or less. Different era back then.

Given the Angels is only my 2nd fav team and I really only know history about the Giants I had to do a little research. Of course some of the fun players I would love to have picked from Angels history don't actually exist on their better teams (Nolan Ryan). However I managed to narrow it down to 6 or 7 worthy years (79, 82, 86, 89, 02, 08, 14) and then went with these three:

2014: This was the year Trout won his first MVP, Pujols and Hamilton did their jobs as they were paid to do, and the pitching staff made great strides behind the young kids, especially a trade deadline savior in Huston Street. Unfortunately they were knocked out by the Royals...wasn't so bad, my Giants won their third WS in 5 years because of that matchup.

2002: The team that beat my Giants in the WS. There was nothing special about this team outside of the rally monkey and the amazing small ball game they could play. They had stars who were consistent all around and if you saw the team roster you would probably know most of them, but not many were going to Cooperstown. When I originally started constructing my IBC roster, part of the madness was a throwback to this type of squad.

1982: And here is my throwback pick, Baylor got the MVP in 79 but this variation of the lineup was just so much more powerful. They consistently put on a show with Reggie Jackson leading the way in the OF. They didn't get much out of two of their four defined SPs but managed to have 3 other replacements come in and lock it down. They lost to the Brewers who in turn lost to the Cards in the Suds Series, but I have slightly high hopes for this squad if they can hit their way through any rough patches.

This is awesome.

The Giants are all in with the 103 win no playoff 1993 squad and my personal favorite of the even year teams the 2012 Giants (the only one of the 3 World Series I didn't actually get to a live game). Hoping that 93 team matches up with the 94 Expos, Matt Williams was gonna hit 60 home runs in 1994 and I thought about it, but needed to play the one lineup that had both Will Clark and Barry Bonds, the two favorite hitters of my childhood.

[Rangers]

The Rangers (or their version of the Sens) have never had a truly dominant team, so the options are generally low-90s wins non-championship teams.

Honorable mention:

1974 - 84 wins - the first good Rangers team that had the MVP and ROY
1977 - 94 wins - had a couple of HOFers and several of the guys thought of as all-time Rangers
1986 - 87 wins - this was a team stacked with young talent and what could have been a bright future
1989 - 83 wins - obviously not a great team but Tom Grieve obtained Nolan Ryan, Rafael Palmeiro and Julio Franco, and Juan Gonzalez, Sammy Sosa, Dean Palmer, Kenny Rogers and Wilson Alvarez all made their major league debuts
1996 - 90 wins - the first full-season division title in franchise history ran into the coinciding Yankees dynasty the first of three times in four years, Juando was MVP
1998 - 88 wins - second division title, second MVP for Juando
2004 - 89 wins - not a great team but young players like Michael Young, Hank Blalock, Mark Teixeira, Adrian Gonzalez, Francisco Cordero, Chris Young and RA Dickey paced an overachieving club
2010 - 90 wins - first pennant winner traded for Cliff Lee and had half of a dominant team but couldn't round it out due to bankruptcy
2012 - 93 wins - wild card team, should have been one of the two picks as they looked like the best team in baseball but nosedived
2015 - 88 wins - revived and won a division with Jeff Banister
2016 - 95 wins - most recent division title, famous for having a better record than they actually were after winning loads of close games

My two picks:

1999 - 95 wins - 3rd division title winner, they were the Rangers' most prolific offense ever in an offensive era led by MVP Pudge, Juando, Rusty Greer, Palmeiro and "ace" Rick Helling, then they went out and scored a total of one run against the Yankees and El Duque, Pettitte, Clemens and RIvera in the ALDS
2011 - 96 wins - the best and most tragic Rangers team ever had their best chance at a title ever slip away, among other ways, with a championship clinching misread ball tipping off the glove of a mispositioned Nelson Cruz who shouldn't have even been in the game

Although the 2018 Sox team was probably one of the top rosters, I didn't find myself as invested in it as I was in previous seasons. 2004 has the largest following for breaking the curse, washing out the bad taste of 2003, and ending the wallowing garbage CHB would write year after year. After that there were a few Sox teams I considered. 1946, 1975, and 1986 mainly. 1946 was Ted Williams only pennant and first MVP. Jared had 1975. Young Fred Lynn, Jim Rice, Dewey, El Tiante, Pudge, Spaceman, Yaz, Petrocelli, and the immortal Dick Pole. Great team. 1986 was the Sox team that cemented my love of baseball. The other end of Rice and Dewey's careers. Boggs, Clemens, Hendo, Tom Seaver, Can, Buckner, and underrated Bruce Hurst. There was also an aging Don Baylor, which started a Sox trend of bringing in sluggers past their prime like Jack Clark and Dante Bichette.
So, 2004, and 1986 for two. 1975 if three.

I'm going to go with the '53 Brooklyn Dodgers (lineup posted 6.16 runs a game while the pitching staff held their own in comparison to the rest of the league) and the '62 Los Angeles Dodgers (Drysdale's best year and still a strong one from Koufax)

Not much positive history as an M's fan. 1995 was the first, and therefore most exciting post-season.

Aaron asked me to do the M's. I picked '95 and '01. I lived in Seattle in '95 and that season was magical. But '97 is about as good overall. In '97, the bullpen was fantastically bad, but in '95 the starters were fantastically bad other than the Big Unit. '97 offense was better, so I'd be fine with '97. Make sure you set the settings to ride the starters though!!

As I was playing around with this I found that the modern teams consistently beat the historic teams, which is probably based on roster construction and game management now vs then. Might be fun to have a side tournament of pre-expansion only teams. We seem to have plenty of time on our hands

Okay here is the bracket. First round is best of 5, every series after that is 7 games. We'll start Round 1 tomorrow. I'll post a little blurb about every game. A couple teams ended up with both their squads on one side of the bracket, sorry, I tried working it out to where it didn't but I couldn't make it work perfect. We'll take a day off between rounds, mostly because that gives me this coming Saturday off to get married because "Hey honey sorry the wedding reception is canceled for a pandemic, let me post scores to imaginary baseball games before I put my suit on" wouldn't go over well. Good luck to everyone, hopefully this will make the next 6 weeks a little more fun
