April 13 Power Rankings

Post by Mets »

Contributors: Rockies

2 weeks in the books, and we know less than we did before the season started.

Rankings
1. Yankees - Mauer & A-Rod's slow start haven't prevented this powerhouse from jumping to the top spot early on.

2. Cardinals - Very little room for error with the Reds trying to over take them. So far they're showing they're still playoff caliber.

3. Reds - The Reds trade one starter for two. Kuo's versitility should help the Reds if he stays healthy.

4. Braves - Pedro manages to sneak in two starts before his injury went into effect. The Braves are going to feel it without him though.

5. Royals - Already pounded out 84 runs in 11 games...moving Chris Young for rotation depth should prove to be a good move with the offense performing like this.

6. BlueJays - 6-0 at home. Taking care of business. Polanco hitting over .400 early on.

7. Dodgers - Mike Lowell has been on fire so far, and LAD's combo of Turnbow & Gagne have been lights out.

8. Indians - 1.96 era out of the Moose...while he may not be able to keep it up over the course of the season, Kelly's method of building rosters is working thus far.

9. Orioles - OverAchieving or UnderRated? Baltimore continues to look to trade pieces that have useful SIMs this season, but continue to win inspite of it.

10. Mariners - Michael Young adds a lot of balance to the Seattle lineup. Sanchez's move to Safeco should give him a shot at an allstar type performance.

11. Tigers - No one will be happier to to get a DL player back as Detroit will be to see Gallardo.

12. RedSox - Team has only been vacant for a week. Will test the theory that good teams don't need managers to win.

13. Giants - If the Giants continue to get production out of Ensberg at 3B, they could surprise some teams in the NL West.

14. Twins - The holes in the Twins lineup are becoming appearant early as their -37 run differntial is worst in the league.

15. DBacks - Arizona playing well, but already behind in their run differntial....How long can they continue to win with that trend?

16. Padres - Rotation has lived up to the hype so far, lineup still trying to find it's rhythm.

17. Nationals
- Nats may not be deep, but their starters have given them every reason to believe early on.

18. Phillies - Bedard have given up 1 ER in 25 innings (0.36), while K'ing 31. Let's see if the pen can get some consistently good innings.

19. Marlins - Verlander's 13 runs in 17.2 innings is not what the Marlins expect out of the ace of their staff. Don't expect it to last too long.

20. WhiteSox - After starting 0-7 (0-6 on the road), they've won 4 straight since returning home.

21. Pirates - Pirates off to a 1-5 start on the road. They won't be able to afford many home losses if this continues to be a trend.

22. Cubs - Cubs continue to send mixed messages to the organization, trading Hardy, but acquiring Chris Young. How long will Gabe try to commit to rebuilding if he's within a handful of games a month from now?

23. Athletics - 3 regulars hitting below the Mendoza line has been countered by the pitching performing very well.

24. Mets - If the Mets can consistently play .500 ball, this season is a major success for them.

25. Rockies - -35 run differntial is 2nd worst in the league. Injuries combined with blow saves and a tough schedule could bury the Rockies too deep early on.

26. Rangers - Juan Pierre's .370 start has been setting the table in Texas. Unfortunately, so have their pitchers, and no one knows when Harden will be able to pitch again.

27. Angels - The wins may not be pretty, but thier still wins...Juan Rivera has led the offense hitting .388

28. Brewers - Bats off to a slow start, but Scherzer's debut of 10 k's makes Brewers fan's excited.

29. Astros - 0-7 vs. RHP....better not tell Houston that 80% of the MLB is right-handed.

30. Rays - 0-10 when trailing after 7, just staying close to teams late into games only count for moral victories.

I wouldn't say that my offense has been the problem--it's a bit above average in terms of runs scored. However, the pitching has been CRAP.

Still, I love the rankings.
