This Week in GAB

Post by BlueJays »

Since there's no new "This Week in IBC" I will provide everyone a chance to read "This Week in GAB"

Since I haven't done this at all yet or blogged about my team's performance this year I will try to touch on highlights from the start of the season to get everyone caught up, then I will try to do weekly updates. I like some of the formats I've seen around here.

I will also provide at the end of the post updated Team Totals and then touch on overall individual totals here and there. Enjoy!

March 31st through April 17th - Record: 10W-6L

Week 1:
The season started off bad, dropping 2 of 3 to the Dbacks. The offense was anemic against Cueto, only collecting 3 hits. Then getting shut down by the Phillies' Derek Lowe in game 1 of that series. The offense had been sputtering for sure. Dunn was off to a particularly sluggish start. Through April 7th he was hitting only .048.

Week 2:
The Reds offense showed up collecting 16 runs on April 6th, however none of that from Dunn as he was still looking to find his stride at the plate. Took 3 of 4 from the Phillies, winning against Gorz, Bedard, and Hudson. Rode a 7 game win streak.

Dunn's bat woke up when the Reds visited the BrewCrew for a 3 game set. The Reds swept the Brewers collecting 28 runs in 3 games. Dunn ended the week with his AVG up to .214 and sat at 5HR.

New pitching acquisition Gil Meche has looked good so far.

Week 3:
Whats gone right: Took 2 of 3 against the Cubs with an upcoming series against the Brewers(Reds are 3-0 against the division rival this year). The team stole 9 bases in 1 game against C - Mike Napoli of the cubs. However the Reds lost this game. Perhaps by being too aggressive as Nick Swisher was thrown out in the top of the 9th trying to go from 1st to 3rd. Dunn's been on a tear. Offense exploded for 18 runs in 1 game. I expect to see outbursts like this on occasion all year. The pitching has, for the most part been good.

Whats gone wrong: Lost the 2nd series of the year, dropping 2 of 3 to the Pirates. The pitching staff was on short rest and out of whack due to the Vazquez/Meche trade, the day off seems to have gotten everything back to normal rest wise. Matt Cain has gotten hit around his last few starts ballooning his ERA to the mid 5's.

pitchers:
Everyone on my staff has gotten batted around, but its still early. You can view them in DMB if you like, its not pretty, but there have been some good performances sprinkled in there so its deceiving. Again, a sign thats its a bit early.
