The Team As It Stands

Post by Giants »

Time for the 2019 Giants as it currently stands even though I have no idea if the opening day roster will look anything like this
Updated with Zips if available, and with our good friend Yoenis Cespedes not included, BONUS if he shows up

LINEUP (We'll have two because this is messy and we'll see what defense changes)
Vs. Righties
C - Buster Posey .288/.363/.409 (109 OPS+ 3.8 zWAR)
SS - Alen Hanson .249/.286/.402 (84 OPS + 1.4 zWAR)
LF - Eric Thames .229/.333/.485 (114 OPS+ 1.2 zWAR)
3B - Jedd Gyorko .254/.324/.425 (100 OPS+ 2.2 zWAR)
1B - Ji-Man Choi .233/.329/.403 (102 OPS+ 0.7 zWAR)
RF - Curtis Granderson
2B - Jed Lowrie .245/.325/.384 (94 OPS+ 2.3 zWAR)
CF - Jarrod Dyson - .250/.313/.342 (82 OPS+ 2.0 zWAR)
Pitcher

Vs. Lefties
1B - Buster Posey
C - Willians Astudillo .280/.307/.459
3B - Jedd Gyorko
RF - Ian Desmond .254/.315/.410
2B - Jed Lowrie
LF - Howie Kendrick .278/.329/.399
SS - Matt Duffy .272/.330/.368
CF - Jarrod Dyson
Bench:
Some combination of the above plus
Yolmer Sanchez - .249/.297/.387
JaCoby Jones
The Dylan Cozens/Brent Rooker rookie masher spot

ROTATION
Corey Kluber!
Sonny Gray
Danny Duffy
Curtis Taylor
Andrew Suarez/Anibal Sanchez/Trevor Cahill

BULLPEN
CL - Giovanny "Rollie Fingers" Gallegos
Relief Ace - Matt Bush (when healthy
SU - Sean Doolittle Dope Steamer Projection
SU - Alex Colome
LOOGY - Ryan Buchter
Long - One of the losers of the 5th starter competition

All in all a pretty meh team that should compete for a wild card if I'm paying attention but might look nothing like this if I decide to pull the trigger and rebuild. Losing Kopech to TJ really hurt.

Updated 3/10

Pre-Mike Cameron Lineup
CF - Randy Winn
SS - Jeff Keppinger
LF - Ken Griffey, Jr.
1B - Paul Konerko
DH - Tony Clark
3B - Bill Hall
C - Ryan Doumit
2B - Mark Ellis
RF - Fred Lewis/Casey Blake

Post-Mike Cameron Lineup
RF - Randy Winn
SS - Jeff Keppinger
LF - Ken Griffey Jr.
1B - Paul Konerko
DH - Tony Clark
CF - Mike Cameron
3B - Bill Hall
C - Ryan Doumit
2B - Mark Ellis

Bench

Fred Lewis
Mike Jacobs
Yorvit Torrealba
Julio Lugo

Rotation

Dan Haren
Noah Lowry
Tom Glavine
Shaun Marcum
Jorge Sosa/Kevin Mulvey/Braden Looper/Paul Byrd/Darren Clarke (if ZIPS=DMB)

Bullpen
Huston Street
Chad Cordero
Chad Qualls
Taylor Tankersley
Dennys Reyes/Trever Miller
One of the 5th starter losers.

Balentien doesn't seem ready to project this year, so we'll see him again next year. Fred Lewis, Mike Jacobs, or Casey Blake could end up stealing playing time from Tony Clark or Bill Hall depending on projections.

If anyone wants a veteran 5th starter or bullpen lefty I apparently have spares of each, I also wouldn't mind grabbing a real catcher and moving Doumit to LF.

Updated with Zips if available 11/14/14
LINEUP (slashes for platoons)

CF - Angel Pagan .278/.325/.388 (105 OPS+ 1.8 zWAR)
C/1B - Buster Posey .301/.367/.474 (141 OPS+ 6.4 zWAR)
LF - Michael Brantley .297/.352/.436 (124 OPS+ 3.4 zWAR)
RF - Yoenis Cespedes .275/.324/.482 (116 OPS+ 3.1 zWAR)
3B - Kung Fu Panda .279/.328/.454 (112 OPS+ 2.8 zWAR)
1B/2B - Brandon Moss/Howie Kendrick .236/.321/.475 (124 wRC+ 1.7 zWAR Moss)
2B/C - Howie Kendrick/Michael McKenry .291/.347/.419 (112 wRC+ 3.7 zWAR Kendrick) .275/.344/.468 (108 OPS+ McKenry 1.3 zWAR)
SS - Ian Desmond .268/.319/.444 (107 OPS+ 3.9 zWAR)
Pitcher

Bench:
John Jaso - C
Sam Fuld - OF
Danny Espinosa - IF
John Mayberry - OF/Right handed pop off the bench

ROTATION
Corey Kluber - 78 ERA- 79 FIP- 4.8 zWAR
Anibal Sanchez - 86 ERA- 86 FIP- 3.5 zWAR
Danny Duffy - 3.36 ERA 3.99 FIP
Brandon McCarthy 106 ERA- 95 FIP- 1.6 zWAR
Brett Oberholtzer/Hector Noesi/Sim Freak du Jour

BULLPEN (til my guy Doolittle comes back)
Closer - Huston Street
RHSU - Santiago Casilla
LHSU - Jake Diekman
MR - Hector Rondon
MR - Burke Badenhop
MR - Ryan Cook
MR - Pat Venditte, of course I'm the guy with Pat Venditte!

So if I read Szymborski correctly the right way to figure out a team's winning percentage is simply to add up the WAR in the depth chart and go from there [/sarcasm]. For us that's 43.6 WAR (assuming about 1.5 for the bench and 3 for the bullpen, and using Duffy's 1.1 WAR steamer projection, to which I strenuously object), which puts us at 91.3 projected wins for the year, probably my highest total entering a season since I've been in the IBC.

Would love to upgrade that 5th starter spot if anyone has some ideas there.

Can y'all believe this team won a championship? Craziness

Time for the 2016 Giants as it currently stands

Updated with Zips if available 11/14/14

LF - Michael Brantley .301/.364/.454 (125 OPS+ 3.1 zWAR)
2B - Howie Kendrick .285/.328/.406 (105 OPS+ 2.3 zWAR)
C/1B - Buster Posey .305/.368/.462 (133 OPS+ 6.3 zWAR)

3B/C - Danny Valencia/Josh Phegley .234/.277/.383 (82 OPS+ 1.5 zWAR)
CF - Jarrod Dyson - .249/.307/.347 (79 OPS+ 1.7 zWAR)
Pitcher

Bench:
Kyle Blanks - OF
Pedro Alvarez - 1B
Danny Espinosa- IF
Pablo Sandoval - 3B

ROTATION
Jake Arrieta - 65 ERA- 73 FIP - 5.4 zWAR
Corey Kluber - 80 ERA- 71 FIP- 4.3 zWAR
Anibal Sanchez - 97 ERA- 90 FIP- 2.4 zWAR
Danny Duffy - 94 ERA- 103 FIP- 1.8 zWAR
Jake Peavy - 102 ERA- 103 FIP- 1.4 zWAR
CJ Wilson/Chris Heston/Brett Oberholtzer/Kris Medlen depth

BULLPEN
CL - Sean Doolittle - 78 ERA- 69 FIP- 0.7 zWAR
SU - Hector Rondon 75 ERA- 78 FIP- 0.9 zWAR
SU - Santiago Casilla 79 ERA- 89 FIP- 0.5 zWAR
SU - Huston Street 89 ERA- 85 FIP- 0.4 zWAR
LOOGY - Jake Diekman 97 ERA- 91 FIP- 0.1 zWAR
Long - Burke Badenhop 94 ERA- 86 FIP- 0.3 zWAR
Long - One of the losers of the 5th starter competition

So if I read Szymborski correctly again this year the right way to figure out a team's winning percentage is simply to add up the WAR in the depth chart and go from there [/sarcasm]. For us that's 44.3 WAR (assuming about 1.5 for the bench and adjusting down for Brantley missing the beginnign of the season), which puts us at 92.1 projected wins for the year, probably my highest total entering a season since I've been in the IBC just ahead of the total from last year.

Pretty happy all told, another impact pen arm or a corner IF upgrade would be cool but I like this team.

Time for the 2018 Giants as it currently stands after the Z trade

Updated with Zips if available
LINEUP (slashes for platoons)

C - Buster Posey .297/.369/.439 (119 OPS+ 4.9 zWAR)
2B - Howie Kendrick .286/.342/.420 (99 OPS+ Steamer)
RF - Eric Thames .240/.345/.510 (125 OPS+ 1.8 zWAR)
LF - Yoenis Cespedes .270/.322/.502 (120 OPS+ 3.4 zWAR)
3B - Jedd Gyorko .263/.327/.462 (106 OPS+ 2.9 zWAR)
1B - Pedro Alvarez .242/.301/.464 (103 OPS+ .1 zWAR)
SS - Taylor Motter .244/.302/.400 (93 OPS+ 1.2 zWAR)
CF - Jarrod Dyson - .250/.313/.342 (82 OPS+ 2.0 zWAR)
Pitcher

Bench:
Matt Duffy .257/.308/.387 (92 OPS+ 1.3 zWAR)
Hector Sanchez - C (may well start against righties)
Yolmer Sanchez - .249/.297/.387 (87 OPS+ 1.4 zWAR)
Ian Desmond
Pablo Sandoval (just kidding)

ROTATION
Corey Kluber! - 62 ERA- 63 FIP - 5.5 zWAR
Sonny Gray - 86 ERA- 85 FIP- 3.4 zWAR
Danny Duffy - 85 ERA- 90 FIP- 2.7 zWAR
Wilmer Font - 95 ERA- 92 ERA- 1.9 zWAR
Brandon McCarthy - 99 ERA- 97 FIP- 1.1 zWAR (in only 86 IP!)

Depth
Michael Kopech - 103 ERA- 97 FIP- 1.7 zWAR
Andrew Suarez//Some Sim Guy

BULLPEN
CL - Giovanny Gallegos - 82 ERA- 76 FIP- 0.9 zWAR
Relief Ace - Matt Bush 77 ERA- 78 FIP- 1.2 zWAR
SU - Sean Doolittle Dope Steamer Projectoin
SU - Alex Colome Led MLB in saves last year!
LOOGY - Jake Diekman 80 ERA- 76 FIP- 0.7 zWAR
Long - One of the losers of the 5th starter competition

Picked up another bat who can play a few positions with Gyorko, plus Font slots nicely into the rotation as a 4th starter which means I can rely less on Brandon McCarthy, things are coming together. The big wild card here is if Matt Bush gets a starter projection, which could be YUUUGE. Very happy with the pitching staff, can never have too many impact arms with injuries and all but with my park and this staff I'd ride or die in defense of the #evenyear IBC title.
