Tigers Block

Post by Guardians »

It's a little tough to create a block after pulling off a blockbuster, but here we are. Tigers don't have a ton of MLB-ready pieces to move this offseason, but we have a few holes and an abundance of top prospects and picks for those inclined. Other players/prospects/picks may be available, so just ask. Needs include true LF, 2B upgrade, catcher and relief.

MLB ready:

JP Crawford: 26-year-old lefty hitting SS who took a big step forward in 2021. The plus D is still there and he put together a solid offensive season. 2022 should be brighter. Slashed .273/.338/.376 with 9 HR 54 RBI 89 R. 3.1 FWAR

Adolis Garcia: 28-year-old rookie was named an All Star after a blistering first half. Came way down in the second half, but finished with 31 HR 90 RBI 77 R 16 SB and a 2.9 FWAR season with plus D across all three OF spots. Mostly played CF and RF.

Braxton Garrett: The former top prospect is now 24 and split the season between MLB and AAA for Miami. He found mixed success between both levels and looks like a future #4 starter, unless he makes a leap. Had a 3.89 ERA in AAA over 85.2 IP with more than 9 K/9 IP. In the majors, he posted a 5.03 ERA with a 4.38 FIP.

Zack Greinke: The ageless wonder looks to be back for another season. He struggled down the stretch, but his last start was 4 shutout innings in the World Series. He finished 2021 with a 4.16 ERA over 170 innings. Steamer likes him for 1.9 wins.

Prospects:

Jarren Duran: BA #37. Plus tools in CF. Showed great power and speed in AAA and struggled in a SSS in the majors.

Ryne Nelson: BA #98. 12 K/9 IP in AA last year. ZiPS likes him in-line with every starter not named Zac Gallen in Arizona at about 1.1 FWAR.

Chris McMahon: Rockies' second round pick in 2020, who is another Fangraphs FV 45. 9.37 K/9 IP and 2.52 BB/ 9 IP with a 4.17 ERA.

Alex Ramirez: Mets' rising prospect. CF with plus power, speed and D. Not to be confused with the older and less-talented Angels' Alexander Ramirez. Far out, great upside.

Taylor Dollard: Mariners' SP prospect from the 2020 draft who had a great professional debut. 133 strikeouts over 100 innings between A and A+ Projectable 6'3 195 frame with a four pitch mix and incredible command/control, walking only 24 over those 100 innings.

Picks:

Cleveland 1 (#15)
Pirates 2 (#57)
Tigers 2 (#60)
Padres 3 (#63)

I guess IBC has gone the way of MLB -- zero inquiries on Mookie Betts.

With ZiPS fully out, these are the Tigers with ZiPS on the block:

Mookie Betts .285/.378/.515 27 HR 75 RBI 27 SB 7.5 RC/27 5.3 fWAR. You should know who he is if you're in this league.

JP Crawford .260/.329/.379 11 HR 57 RBI 5 SB 4.5 RC/27 2.6 fWAR. Great 2021 season, with his offense making a leap. Plus D.

Adolis Garcia: .237/.279/.450 28 HR 87 RBI 13 SB 4.5 RC/27 1.8 fWAR. 2021 All-Star with 31 HR. Plus D in CF.

Lorenzo Cain: .265/.334/.384 9 HR 34 RBI 14 SB 4.9 RC/27 2.0 fWAR. Solid CF with D, speed and a steady contributor.

Zack Greinke: 10-7 4.01 ERA 161.2 IP 131 K 34 BB 108 ERA+ 2.6 fWAR
Marco Gonzales 9-9 4.37 ERA 144 IP 110 K 38 BB 95 ERA+ 1.4 fWAR
Alan Rangel 8-7 4.76 ERA 104 IP 91 K 38 BB 95 ERA+ 1.0 fWAR
Braxton Garrett 6-7 4.70 ERA 115 IP 100 K 49 BB 90 ERA+ 0.9 fWAR

All these pitchers can be plugged in to eat innings. Greinke and Gonzales represent guys who have had great success in the sim in the past. Rangel and Garrett are both 24.
