2013 season review:

After a big trade that brought over Buzz Oliver and Craig Kimbrel we went into this year with 9 usable RPs and 7 SPs. The need for increased depth became obvious after a slew of injuries exposed a lack of pitching depth on last year's squad. Good thing too as once the season gets rolling Hanrahan goes down to TJ, Venters has his 2nd TJ, Fujikawa has TJ, Matt Reynolds partially tears his UCL and tries to rehab it for the rest of the year before finally having TJ a few days ago. 135+, 119+, 117+, and 108+ with a great FIP all gone by mid May. Team starts slowly again, hovering around .500 at the end of May but comes into it's own when Papi returns from his achilles strain. Mid season after it looks more and more likely Leubke isn't going to complete his rehab from TJ this year and Huddy breaks his ankle in a gruesome play at 1B, I trade for Colby Lewis who is deep in a rehab stint of his own. Soon after, he has surprise hip surgery and is out for the year. A four man rotation goes into effect. Late in the year, as JB tries to finesse rebuilding with still trying to compete, the Sox get hot and make a 14 win run to take over first place in the east and finally open up a gap between themselves and a plucky Jays squad. My 'D' first CF Torres goes on the DL with achilles surgery at the end of August and JB sneaks back into the lead with only a few games left. The Sox last nine games are against a Rockies squad with 8 active pitchers and an O's squad looking forward to the draft. We win 7 in a row and squeek out our first ALE title by one game. The Sox end their season in a computer simmed series to a good KC club after H2H was cancelled due to a family issue. A disapointing end, but psyched to get an ALE title and strong seasons up and down the lineup point towards a good team for 2014.

Unlike the last two years I was able to resist the urge to trade my first round pick or my nearly ready young SP so maybe next year's depth can come from within instead of by trade or scrounge.
