Red Sox Prospect Roundup

Post by RedSox »

Okay, now that SS ball is getting going a few notes on some of the IBC Red Sox bonus babies. All of these guys will be available going into the deadline for parts that will help me reach the playoffs.

Victor Sanchez RHP Sea -
The M's skipped Sanchez over the DSL and AZL and sent him straight to the college heavy NWL where he was impressive in his first pro start.
KG said monday: "Northwest League, and the 17-year-old (born in 1995) allowed just two hits over six innings in his pro debut. Sanchez is a bit undersized but thick and athletic, and he stands out as much for his polish as his stuff. His fastball sat at 90-94 mph on Friday, and while his breaking ball has potential, his changeup is the kind rarely seen in a teenager, featuring plenty of deception and fade. He could be another name in an impressive potential rotation."

Robert Stephenson RHP Cin -
In his first pro start in the Pioneer league last night Stephenson overcame a 2 error first inning to go on to pitch 5 innings only allowing 1 ball to leave the infield after the first. Along the way he recorded 8 K and 6 ground ball outs. A pretty dominant showing for the 19 year old making his pro debut.

Manuel Margot OF Bos -
Signed Margot in the morning and didn't find out he made the Hotsheet helium until that night. Lucky or he'd be a Giant or Pirate now.
Helium - "The international signing period opens on July 2, the first date when teams can sign 16-year-old foreign players. Nearly one year after signing Manuel Margot out of the Dominican Republic on July 2 for $800,000, the Red Sox have to be excited about what he might become. The 17-year-old Margot is hitting .325/.408/.625 in 49 plate appearances in the Dominican Summer League, which isn't a surprise given reports from Dominican scouts that he was one of the better game hitters in last year's signing class, though he's shown some more power than expected. His eight stolen bases are tied for the most in the DSL, and he's yet to be thrown out. With his 70 speed, a plus arm, athleticism and defensive instincts, Margot has the potential to be a dynamic player for the Red Sox down the road."

Miguel Andujar 3B NYY -
Hold and see guy as the Yankees big money signing from last year. The Yanks usually take it pretty slow with their position players so seeing him in the GCL to open his career as a 17 year old (3/2/1995) was a surprise.

Jose Lopez RHP Mil -
Look for him in the AZL tonight.
