NL ZiPS look

Post by RedSox »

Well, I guess I've got enough NL rosters to put something together here. I'll start with the NLC champ Pirates.

Line-up:
C Molina .277/.340/.366, 90+, Ex arm
1B Johnson (unknown)/ Vlad .293/.343/.491, 117+
2B Polanco (unknown) 90 OPS+
SS Furcal .276/.341/.402, 102+, Vg R
3B Longoria .279/.362/.504, 132+, Ex R
LF Holliday .296/.376/.491, Av R, 131+
CF Byrd (unknown) 97 OPS+
RF Raburn (unknown) 113 OPS+*

*2010 Projection
Lineup Ave - 109.0 OPS+

Rotation:
SP Lincecum 1.13 WHIP, 150+
SP Johnson 1.13 WHIP, 147+
SP Haren 1.16 WHIP, 117+
SP Nolasco 1.17 WHIP, 112+

League Ave - 96.0 ERA+
Rotation Ave - 131.5 ERA+

Bullpen:
CL Broxton 145+
RP Ramirez 118+
RP Gregg 104 ERA+
RP Miller 110+
RP Gervacio 94+
RP Feldman 97 ERA+

* = 2010 Projection
League Ave - 108.00
Bullpen Ave - 111.33 ERA+

Not much to say here. Tough sledding all the way around in the NLC. This team won 122 games last year and though I'm sure he was tempted, JP hasn't traded everybody and rebuilt the team. I only have a couple concerns. First, the team is noticeably RH heavy. Also I watched Nate roll up some impressive W-L records with a 4 man rotation, but fall short in the playoffs. Things sometimes go wonky after a guy flips the odometer on his projected IP.

I think Butler was a good additon and Beltre should be in line for a nice bump up from the 97 he had last year. The rotation is solid but lacks star power. Bullpen is strong and has good depth which should help in the launching pad in Cin.

The addition of Uggla and Votto should be a big boost for a club that was 8tth in the NL in scoring last year. The rotation is strong across the board in a stadium that helps pitchers. The Bullpen looks elite. I don't think Aaron is going to be 41 games out this year.

The Cubs aren't a bad team, but after looking at the Reds/Pirates/Cards I don't see how they're in the running for the Wildcard this year. I do like how Gabe has some good young star caliber guys sprinkled in though. I see quite a few guys that have yet to reach their peak meaning the Cubs should be stronger next year.

I don't see any way this isn't a playoff team this year. Rotation, Bullpen, and Line-up are all excellent. The biggest thing standing in Jagger's way might be the crappy ballpark they play in.

As I was writing this, Nils probably traded 5 guys so this isn't accurate anymore. Martin's OPS+ should be down from 106 but Gonzalez should get a bump from moving to Fenway. The rotation is strong and I expect the final build of ZiPS to have a starters rating for Feliz so once Santana gets back runs will be hard to come by in a park that represses RHH as much as AZ inflates them. There are some guys coming off injury and with Feliz in the rotation the bullpen isn't very deep. Some dice being rolled here, but I like the infield D. A good team.

I don't know if Pettitte hanging it up today hurts the Yankees or the IBC Dodgers more. There are some some young arms here that should be better next year, but right now have unusable projections for 2011. Heyward is a beast and I'm interested to see how the Bautista at 2B(He has a rating!) experiment goes.

I put together the Rockies list because they've started off strong the last two years. 2011 though, looks like a long year in the Mile high city. Glaus has been talking about retirement the last couple days so I didn't include him though his ZiPS(100) is better than Wigginton's. The Rockies could go with an all CF OF with Jackson, Jennings, and Borbon which would be interesting. With Teheran looking like a legit beast, if Porcello can get his head out of his *rump* Jake could have a nice 1,2,3 rotation. Some older guys with decent projections that could be moved at the break.

I'm getting to the NLE. Thought I'd wait for the Mets ZiPS as John's team is half MLB Mets.

Could be worse. Glad I hung onto Maine/Mejia & Acosta for their mediocre depth.

I probably would have opted for DeJesus over Pierre as with Ichiro on board there's no need for more leadoff type skills. That would bump the lineup closer to 100. The rotation is young and there is good, nearly league ave depth waiting. Looks like Citifield is hard on RHH and the rotation is heavily RH so that should double up on keeping RH heavy lineups down at home. Bullpen isn't special but I don't think John thought the rotation would be competitive this year.

Another NLE stadium that holds down RHH. Brandon made some moves to strengthen the line-up but the rotation isn't ready and Kazmir looks more and more like he's done. Bullpen has a lot of big arms that could put up good numbers in real life and be much, much better next year. We'll see if BB will grow with what he has or trade the younger guys that take steps forward for parts to compete next year.

Injuries were hard on this team last year. Soto should get a bump whenever Szym decides to release the Cubs ZiPS. Ortiz and Ramirez should step back a little more though so the net should be a loss. The stadium is hard on anyone who swings a bat for a living, with that rotation adding to the misery. A lot of K's there. The bullpen looks really strong as well. With just the Nats and Phils to go this looks like the early favorite in the East.

Nick decided to tear his team down over the offseason and rebuild. The early returns look promising, but I'm not as sure as he is that it's going to be roses this year in the city of brotherly love. I'm don't know when McGowan will be back and if he can still pitch after having his arm sewn back on for the 12th time. The big bats of Werth and Votto will be missed.

Still waiting on Lowrie and Swisher's sim. Both should be looking at jumps. Lineup is pretty good and I believe Dan has bumped Cruz's OF rating to VG. Rotation has remarkable depth. Bullpen is also better than I thought when I started. Good depth there as well.
