James Kaprielian matched his longest outing of the year last night going 5 ip's allowing 1 h and 1 bb with 6 k's. He lowered his AA era to 1.96, supported by a 0.96 whip and almost a k/ip.

This is super encouraging as the results of 2019 are the first professional pitches he's thrown since 2016. The most exciting part is that, while his fastball isn't touching 99 like he had, he's still bringing consistent mid-90's heat, showing three plus secondaries, and throwing strikes. There will always be injury concerns, but it's been really interesting to watch him build strength across the course of this campaign and finish stronger than he started. The potential for a mid-rotation starter is back...which is far more than the A's could have hoped for at the start of this year.
