With most of my players' ZiPS are available, here's a brief assessment of the squad as it stands...

Lineup - Overall this year's lineup is deep and solid 1-9. After a few seasons back in the AL, I've finally started to adjust and feature more power and less speed than in past seasons. What this lineup lacks is a second elite bat to pair with JD Martinez. However, the overall depth and quality should make the offense potent enough to compete in the rough-and-tumble AL East. Position battles to watch include CF, 3B and SS where Gardner/Peralta, Longoria/McMahon and Nunez/Tulowitzki will vie for everyday roles.

Bench - Depth is again the word here, with a bench loaded with guys who should be in a starting lineup and will force some difficult decisions for me on Opening Day.

Defense - The Jays may have taken a step back defensively. What has perennially been one of the better defensive squads in the league is solid and fairly versatile with Nunez, McMahon, Vogt and Belt all playing at least 2 positions. However, the Jays' D would definitely benefit from the addition of a standout glove or two.

Rotation - Unquestionably the strength of this team, the Jays' starting pitching stacks up well against any 5 in the IBC. Strong projections for Castillo and Snell make this a deep group that gives the Jays a lot of options in trade. Felix Hernandez, Dinelson Lamet and Chris Stratton are more than capable fill-ins as starters 6, 7 and 8.

Bullpen - A good group that shouldn't have a problem holding leads for ace closer Craig Kimbrel.
