Blue Jays Notes - June 2016

Post by Orioles »

  • Robinson Cano has come out of the gate smoking hot for MLB's Seattle Mariners, on an MVP pace that compares favorably with the future HOFer's best seasons as a Yankee. His 156 OPS+ would top his career-best of 148 in 161 games in 2012. Cano has turned on the power this season, slugging an explosive .701 in road games where he has hit 10 of his 16 HR. His current 162-game pace puts him at 50 HR and 150 HR, so anywhere near that and he'll have produced (another) one of the greatest offensive seasons ever by a 2B not named Cobb or Hornsby.
  • Count Nats backstop Wilson Ramos among those off to a blistering start in 2016. Ramos has always been able to hit but has never managed to stay on the field long enough to put together a true breakout campaign. Snakebitten by persistent injuries for most of his career, Ramos "appears" healthy (knock on wood) this season and has raked thus far to the tune of a .338/.383/.536 line with a 142 OPS+ and 7 HR. This might be the year his hitting talent and some good health vault him into the upper echelon of MLB catchers.
