IBC Brewers Farm Top 10.

Post by Pirates »

1. Rick Porcello Age 19. RHP..Hi A.....Porcello led the Class A Advanced Florida State League with a 2.66 ERA and was fourth in WHIP at 1.19. Porcello throws both a two-seam and four-seam fastball ... both of which can reach the mid-90s with regularity although the four-seamer is a bit faster. The heavy two-seamer has plenty of life down in the zone and induces ground balls. Ace, All-Star, Cy Young candidate, you name it. He's been compared to Roy Halladay, Justin Verlander, Roy Oswalt and Josh Beckett.

2. Mike Moustakas Age 20. SS\3B..A...Moustakas led the Midwest League in home runs (22) at age 19. He has plus, plus bat speed and raw power to all fields. He made a nice transition from shortstop, his high school position, to third base, where his above-average arm strength plays well. Prototypical All-Star third baseman that hits in the middle of the lineup and competes for home run and RBI titles.

3. Lars Anderson Age 21. 1B...AA..... He's managed to hit .307 against southpaws in his two years as a pro, a touch better than his .302 mark against right-handers.He has an advanced approach to hitting, simple mechanics, knowledge of strike zone and plus power to all fields. He should hit for average and power in the big leagues and he's worked hard on his defense to the point where he's a good first baseman. All-Star-caliber first baseman that will contend for batting titles and RBI crowns, with plenty of homers to boot.

4. Jordan Zimmerman Age 22. RHP....AA....Overlooked because of his small school background, Zimmerman is instead looking like a draft day steal. After dominating High A, Zimmerman was promoted to Double A, where he more than held his own, establishing himself as Washington’s top pitcher. What He Can Be: A Solid Number Two Starter

5. Jason Castro Age 21...C...A..Castro has shown he can hit for average and power. This summer he hit .341 in the Cape Cod League. Scouting reports say that he has better speed than most catchers. He is improving defensively though his arm strength is average. Baseball America ranks him as the third best catcher in the draft behind possible top pick Buster Posey and Kyle Skipworth. Solid Offensive Catcher who hits for above average power.

6. Jordan Walden Age 21..RHP..A..Walden’s calling card is his fastball which sits comfortably around 97 mph. Though he didn’t hit 100 tonight, he has before. He successfully maintained his velocity throughout and showed very good command on the fastball. He has decent downward movement on his fastball which makes it extra deadly for opposing hitters. His fastball grades as a plus-pitch. Solid Number Two Starter.

7. Chris Marrero Age 20..1B..Hi A..Tall, strong, lean and loose, he shows average to plus tools in all five categories, with 70 power on the 20-to-80 scale. His swing has good leverage and he can drive balls out to all parts of the park. He has adequate plate discipline and good pitch recognition. He has well-above-average arm strength and shows some ability to make accurate throws from different arm angles and on the run. Some scouts envision him moving to first base or left field, developing into a player the ilk of Pat Burrell.

8. Bill Rowell Age 20..3B..Hi A...According to Baseball America, Rowell’s power is a 70 on a scouting scale of 20-80. He models his left-handed swing after Barry Bonds and reportedly constantly works to improve it.
The results have paid off. Before the first weekend of June, the Bishop Eustace Prep shortstop’s career batting average had reached .505. In 103 career games, Rowell had a .615 on base percentage and 157 RBIs.
At 6-feet-5-inches, scouts feel Rowell has grown out of the shortstop position. The Orioles are projecting him as a third baseman and watched him take ground balls in a work out at Camden Yards last week. Above Average 3B with 20-25 Hr Potential.

9. Kevin Pucetas Age 24..RHP...Hi A...Last year he won MiLB’s Most Spectacular Pitcher Award which is usually given to the SP with the lowest ERA in the minors (he boasted a 1.86 mark in Augusta). Kevin’s repertoir, however, is less than stellar, as he mostly works in the low 80s. This season, he is sporting a 2.76 ERA in 65 IP. He walks few batters, allows his share of hits, and doesn’t have a fantastic GO/AO ratio. He strikes out a fair amount of batters, probably due to his excellent control. Solid 4th Starter\Relief Pitcher

10. Nick Noonan Age 19..2B..A..Noonan owns a classic, pretty left handed swing--he carries his weight forward well, has a small loading of the hands, maintaining a short path to the ball, and let's the ball travel deep into his hitting zone. His power is limited at the moment, but by filling out his frame and perhaps by making a mechanical adjustment or two , he could end up with 15 - 20 home run power. Above Average Everyday 2B

Just Missed the Cut...Michael McKenry, Jeff Locke.
