It's really dead around here considering how close we are to the start of the season.

Don't consider this an official announcement, but we are planning on doing the waivers draft this weekend (probably like last year, via Shawn offline), so maybe that and the season being imminent will get us going.

I do think that part of the problem is that more of the league would like to compete, at least at the outset of the season, than in some previous years. That's obviously a good thing, but it makes it a little tougher to collect the couple of missing pieces that you need. I know for me, I'd like to find a reliever and a couple of bench guys and would like to deal pitching prospects to get them, but anyone who is dealing decent major league players seems to view Yovani Gallardo or Matt Wieters as a better fit for them. And I obviously view that as counter-productive. From what I've heard a lot of that sort of thing is going on.

And the cure for all of that, at least in terms of the market, will be about a month's worth of games and a wakeup call for a handful of teams.

Also, an almost two month long spring training really kills the momentum toward the season.

Waiting on the waiver draft. Seth has pick #1 and I wanna see how badly he screws it up before I run with the preview.

I was thinking Barry Bonds, but that one's more realistic...

I didn't expect this suggestion to be taken literally by anybody here.

It's okay. The Super Bowl is the turning point on the sports calendar. And the Daytona 500 kicks off the summer sports...in February, but still. Pitchers and catchers not much further away. Almost time to start getting excited.
