Post Draft Waivers

Post by Guardians »

Exco has worked on a new approach to teams seeking additional 17 draftees following this-year's draft. As in the past, players will be placed on waivers. Unlike last year, where teams posted the players they wanted to claim on the board, we will be using a blind waivers system.

After the last pick of the draft, all draft-eligible players who were not drafted go on waivers for 24 hours. Teams have 24 hours from the last pick in the draft to submit claims for the players they want in an email to rosters@ibcleague.com. Emails should include player to claim and player to drop, if awarded. If emailing a list of multiple players to claim, each player must include a player to drop.

Once 24 hours passes, Exco will award players to teams based on the original draft order, going down the list until all the players who have been claimed are awarded, or until teams claiming players have run out of players to drop. In addition, Exco will post all teams who placed a claim but were not awarded the player.

Does this not seem overly complicated to get a similar result?

It's not overly complicated. It's the same as posting on the board, but we're testing a new system to see if it works better/worse than the past. Similar to the ZiPS bidding system we implemented starting last year.

Two comments:

1. It didn't seem like some were happy with the fairness of having to post them for others with higher waiver position to see.

2. When we allowed extra picks, some abused it by asking for multiple extra picks and then taking a long time on the clock to make the picks, giving typically 1-2 guys sole access to players who have signed in the past year for however long they cared to (and during spring training).

So basically the additional complication is to try to keep it as fair as possible for everyone.
