2019 ZiPS Bidding Process
All,
As you know, rosters will expand to 55 this offseason, using the ZiPS Bidding process to accomplish this. As John posted, ZiPS are scheduled for release beginning Tuesday, Dec. 4. A reminder from the original post laying out rule changes:
Rather than place everybody on waivers or have a draft, we are going to use ZiPS Bidding this winter to get us to 55. Meaning, you will be able to expand your roster to 55 players using the ZiPS bidding system. We'll create a separate roster within your team page to accomplish this. You will have the opportunity to add 5 players via the ZiPS bidding system.
After the ZiPS bidding period ends, rosters will officially be at 55, and you can construct them as you deem fit
You are NOT required to have 25 active MLB players in the offseason. This is ONLY a requirement for the sim database and in season play.
The ZiPS bidding quasi-auction draft to get us to 55 is a one-time event. We will continue ZiPS bidding in future seasons, but we will not have a separate roster for it in future offseasons.
We will be setting up a forum today similar to last year's (viewforum.php?f=57). Anyone who sees zips released on FG can post with the team name as the subject. Any anyone wishing to bid on a player may post the player and bid amount as a reply under that team. As in the past, once a player bid hits 24 hours, it will be final and posted on the site. The team can then sign that player.

Re: 2019 ZiPS Bidding Process
All released zips teams will be posted in the "Official Business" forum called ZiPS Bidding 2018-19. When a team is posted with a link to the Fangraphs page, that will timestamp/begin the 24-hour period for players to be bid on.
Teams should post players in that thread with the player's name and their bid. 24 hours after the last bid for a player, the player will be awarded to the winning team.
Once Shawn has added a roster to team pages to keep track of these players (he's been swamped, but he's aware of the need), they can be added. Until then, they will remain awarded/not yet added to a roster.

Re: 2019 ZiPS Bidding Process
So unless a team bids on a player they can't go into the ZiPS area of the roster even if their 2019 ZiPS have been released, is that correct?

I don't think that makes much sense. If roster expansion is the goal then any team that has been released should be allowed to count toward the 55 man roster. Otherwise - waiting for the draft to increase would have been much better.

Additionally - I can't sign any players since I had Span added from ZiPS bidding. Technically I should be able to raise my roster by one slot since I was at 49 before Span and he was a ZiPS signee.

Who are you trying to sign? I'm not able to recreate this issue.

Re: 2019 ZiPS Bidding Process
I'm trying to sign and create:
Raynel Espinal, P
10/6/1991
I get the following message:
"You must have less than 40 non-draft players on your roster to sign this player."
I currently have 36 on my active roster (one you remove draft picks) and 2 on my inactive roster "0-name"
That should be less than 40
Bump - I have 39 active and still cannot sign anyone because it says I have over 40. Is this due to the extra roster slots/ZiPS?

Re: 2019 ZiPS Bidding Process
I processed the signing, but whatever the issue is doesn't have anything to do with ZiPS rosters. You should be within roster requirements right nowMets wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 7:09 pm

Also, you're at 50 now with Espinal (aside from the 3 zips guys) and that was after you dropped Tyler Wade this evening. So, it would seem you couldn't sign Espinal without dropping someone to stay under 50.

Re: 2019 ZiPS Bidding Process
I did notice that - but also the draft hadn't started yet - so the three picks I've made so far weren't on my roster and the draft slots shouldn't count against my 50-man - so still think something weird was going on.
