Also being from New England, Houston has the same problem. Couple good breweries in Houston are Brash, Baa Baa Brewhouse, and Great Heights. There are some awesome breweries for atmosphere (St. Arnold’s, Karbach, Eureka Heights, 8th Wonder, No Label, etc.) but their beer is insanely average.

As far as IPAs go, if you only like the start and not the end of them, drink lagers or pilsners. Give you a pop up front with a smoother finish. I love IPAs because I love the entirety of the ride.

Duck Fat is incredible. Novare Res is one of the best bars in the US to get a beer. Portland is awesome.

Maine Beer Company is very good...Bissell Brothers is better. Lone Pine has some excellent ones, too.
